- 1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.τῇ δὲ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων ὄρθρου βαθέως ⸂ἐπὶ τὸ μνῆμα ἦλθον⸃ φέρουσαι ἃ ἡτοίμασαν ⸀ἀρώματα

- 15And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ὁμιλεῖν αὐτοὺς καὶ συζητεῖν καὶ ⸀αὐτὸς Ἰησοῦς ἐγγίσας συνεπορεύετο αὐτοῖς
- 16But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν ἐκρατοῦντο τοῦ μὴ ἐπιγνῶναι αὐτόν
- 17And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς Τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὗτοι οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες καὶ ⸀ἐστάθησαν σκυθρωποί
- 18And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ⸂εἷς ὀνόματι⸃ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις
- 19And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ποῖα οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Τὰ περὶ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ ⸀Ναζαρηνοῦ ὃς ἐγένετο ἀνὴρ προφήτης δυνατὸς ἐν ἔργῳ καὶ λόγῳ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ
- 20And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.ὅπως τε παρέδωκαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ἡμῶν εἰς κρίμα θανάτου καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν
- 21But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.ἡμεῖς δὲ ἠλπίζομεν ὅτι αὐτός ἐστιν ὁ μέλλων τὸν Ἰσραήλ ἀλλά γε ⸀καὶ σὺν πᾶσιν τούτοις τρίτην ταύτην ἡμέραν ⸀ἄγει ἀφ’ οὗ ταῦτα ἐγένετο
- 22Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;ἀλλὰ καὶ γυναῖκές ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξέστησαν ἡμᾶς γενόμεναι ⸀ὀρθριναὶ ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον
- 23And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.καὶ μὴ εὑροῦσαι τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἦλθον λέγουσαι καὶ ὀπτασίαν ἀγγέλων ἑωρακέναι οἳ λέγουσιν αὐτὸν ζῆν
- 24And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.καὶ ἀπῆλθόν τῶν σὺν ἡμῖν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον καὶ εὗρον καθὼς ⸀καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες εἶπον αὐτὸν δὲ οὐκ εἶδον
- 25Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:καὶ αὐτὸς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ὦ ἀνόητοι καὶ βραδεῖς τῇ καρδίᾳ τοῦ πιστεύειν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐλάλησαν οἱ προφῆται
- 26Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ
- 27And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν προφητῶν ⸀διερμήνευσεν αὐτοῖς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς γραφαῖς τὰ περὶ ⸀ἑαυτοῦ
- 28And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.Καὶ ἤγγισαν εἰς τὴν κώμην οὗ ἐπορεύοντο καὶ αὐτὸς ⸀προσεποιήσατο πορεύεσθαι
- 29But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.καὶ παρεβιάσαντο αὐτὸν λέγοντες Μεῖνον μεθ’ ἡμῶν ὅτι πρὸς ἑσπέραν ἐστὶν καὶ κέκλικεν ⸀ἤδη ἡ ἡμέρα καὶ εἰσῆλθεν τοῦ μεῖναι σὺν αὐτοῖς
- 30And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ κατακλιθῆναι αὐτὸν μετ’ αὐτῶν λαβὼν τὸν ἄρτον εὐλόγησεν καὶ κλάσας ἐπεδίδου αὐτοῖς
- 31And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν καὶ αὐτὸς ἄφαντος ἐγένετο ἀπ’ αὐτῶν
- 32And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους Οὐχὶ ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν ⸂ἐν ἡμῖν⸃ ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ⸀ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς
- 33And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,καὶ ἀναστάντες αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς καὶ εὗρον τοὺς ἕνδεκα καὶ τοὺς σὺν αὐτοῖς
- 34Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.λέγοντας ὅτι ⸂ὄντως ἠγέρθη ὁ κύριος⸃ καὶ ὤφθη Σίμωνι
- 35And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐξηγοῦντο τὰ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ὡς ἐγνώσθη αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ κλάσει τοῦ ἄρτου
- 36And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.Ταῦτα δὲ αὐτῶν λαλούντων ⸀αὐτὸς ἔστη ἐν μέσῳ ⸀αὐτῶν
- 37But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.δὲ καὶ ἔμφοβοι γενόμενοι ἐδόκουν πνεῦμα θεωρεῖν
- 38And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστέ καὶ διὰ τί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν ⸂τῇ καρδίᾳ⸃ ὑμῶν
