- 1Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:Κατήντησεν δὲ ⸀καὶ εἰς Δέρβην καὶ ⸀εἰς Λύστραν καὶ ἰδοὺ μαθητής ἦν ἐκεῖ ὀνόματι Τιμόθεος υἱὸς ⸀γυναικὸς Ἰουδαίας πιστῆς πατρὸς δὲ Ἕλληνος
- 2Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.ὃς ἐμαρτυρεῖτο ὑπὸ τῶν ἐν Λύστροις καὶ Ἰκονίῳ ἀδελφῶν
- 3Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.τοῦτον ἠθέλησεν ὁ Παῦλος σὺν αὐτῷ ἐξελθεῖν καὶ λαβὼν περιέτεμεν αὐτὸν διὰ τοὺς Ἰουδαίους τοὺς ὄντας ἐν τοῖς τόποις ἐκείνοις γὰρ ἅπαντες ⸂ὅτι Ἕλλην ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ⸃ ὑπῆρχεν
- 4And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.ὡς δὲ διεπορεύοντο τὰς πόλεις ⸀παρεδίδοσαν αὐτοῖς φυλάσσειν τὰ δόγματα τὰ κεκριμένα ὑπὸ τῶν ἀποστόλων ⸀καὶ πρεσβυτέρων τῶν ἐν ⸀Ἱεροσολύμοις
- 5And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.αἱ μὲν οὖν ἐκκλησίαι ἐστερεοῦντο τῇ πίστει καὶ ἐπερίσσευον τῷ ἀριθμῷ καθ’ ἡμέραν
- 6Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,⸀Διῆλθον δὲ τὴν Φρυγίαν ⸀καὶ Γαλατικὴν χώραν κωλυθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος λαλῆσαι τὸν λόγον ἐν τῇ Ἀσίᾳ
- 7After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.ἐλθόντες ⸀δὲ κατὰ τὴν Μυσίαν ἐπείραζον ⸀εἰς τὴν Βιθυνίαν ⸀πορευθῆναι καὶ οὐκ εἴασεν αὐτοὺς τὸ πνεῦμα ⸀Ἰησοῦ
- 8And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.παρελθόντες δὲ τὴν Μυσίαν κατέβησαν εἰς
- 9And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.καὶ ὅραμα ⸀διὰ νυκτὸς ⸂τῷ Παύλῳ ὤφθη⸃ ἀνὴρ ⸂Μακεδών ἦν⸃ ἑστὼς ⸀καὶ παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγων Διαβὰς εἰς Μακεδονίαν βοήθησον ἡμῖν
- 10And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.ὡς δὲ τὸ ὅραμα εἶδεν εὐθέως ἐζητήσαμεν ἐξελθεῖν ⸀εἰς Μακεδονίαν συμβιβάζοντες ὅτι προσκέκληται ἡμᾶς ὁ ⸀θεὸς εὐαγγελίσασθαι αὐτούς
- 11Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;Ἀναχθέντες ⸀οὖν ⸀ἀπὸ εὐθυδρομήσαμεν εἰς Σαμοθρᾴκην τῇ ⸀δὲ εἰς
- 12And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.⸀κἀκεῖθεν εἰς Φιλίππους ἥτις ἐστὶν ⸂πρώτη τῆς μερίδος⸃ Μακεδονίας πόλις κολωνία ἦμεν δὲ ἐν ⸀ταύτῃ τῇ πόλει διατρίβοντες ἡμέρας
- 13And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.τῇ τε ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων ἐξήλθομεν ἔξω τῆς ⸀πύλης παρὰ ποταμὸν οὗ ⸂ἐνομίζομεν προσευχὴν⸃ εἶναι καὶ καθίσαντες ἐλαλοῦμεν ταῖς συνελθούσαις γυναιξίν
- 14And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.καί γυνὴ ὀνόματι Λυδία πορφυρόπωλις πόλεως Θυατείρων σεβομένη τὸν θεόν ἤκουεν ἧς ὁ κύριος διήνοιξεν τὴν καρδίαν προσέχειν τοῖς λαλουμένοις ὑπὸ ⸀τοῦ Παύλου
- 15And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.ὡς δὲ ἐβαπτίσθη καὶ ὁ οἶκος αὐτῆς παρεκάλεσεν λέγουσα Εἰ κεκρίκατέ με πιστὴν τῷ κυρίῳ εἶναι εἰσελθόντες εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου ⸀μένετε καὶ παρεβιάσατο ἡμᾶς
- 16And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:Ἐγένετο δὲ πορευομένων ἡμῶν εἰς ⸀τὴν προσευχὴν παιδίσκην ἔχουσαν πνεῦμα ⸀ὑπαντῆσαι ἡμῖν ἥτις ἐργασίαν πολλὴν παρεῖχεν τοῖς κυρίοις αὐτῆς μαντευομένη
- 17The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.αὕτη ⸀κατακολουθοῦσα τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ ἡμῖν ἔκραζεν λέγουσα Οὗτοι οἱ ἄνθρωποι δοῦλοι τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου εἰσίν οἵτινες καταγγέλλουσιν ⸀ὑμῖν ὁδὸν σωτηρίας
- 18And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.τοῦτο δὲ ἐποίει ἐπὶ πολλὰς ἡμέρας ⸀δὲ Παῦλος καὶ ἐπιστρέψας τῷ πνεύματι εἶπεν Παραγγέλλω σοι ⸀ἐν ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐξελθεῖν ἀπ’ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐξῆλθεν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ
- 19And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ κύριοι αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐξῆλθεν ἡ ἐλπὶς τῆς ἐργασίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενοι τὸν Παῦλον καὶ τὸν Σιλᾶν εἰς τὴν ἀγορὰν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας
- 20And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,καὶ προσαγαγόντες αὐτοὺς τοῖς στρατηγοῖς εἶπαν Οὗτοι οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἐκταράσσουσιν ἡμῶν τὴν πόλιν Ἰουδαῖοι ὑπάρχοντες
- 21And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.καὶ καταγγέλλουσιν ἔθη ἃ οὐκ ἡμῖν παραδέχεσθαι οὐδὲ ποιεῖν Ῥωμαίοις οὖσιν
- 22And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.καὶ συνεπέστη ὁ ὄχλος κατ’ αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ στρατηγοὶ αὐτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια ἐκέλευον ῥαβδίζειν
- 23And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:πολλάς ⸀τε ἐπιθέντες αὐτοῖς πληγὰς ἔβαλον εἰς φυλακήν παραγγείλαντες τῷ δεσμοφύλακι ἀσφαλῶς τηρεῖν αὐτούς
- 24Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.ὃς παραγγελίαν τοιαύτην ⸀λαβὼν ἔβαλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἐσωτέραν φυλακὴν καὶ τοὺς πόδας ⸂ἠσφαλίσατο αὐτῶν⸃ εἰς τὸ ξύλον
- 25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.Κατὰ δὲ τὸ μεσονύκτιον Παῦλος καὶ προσευχόμενοι ὕμνουν τὸν θεόν ἐπηκροῶντο δὲ αὐτῶν οἱ δέσμιοι
- 26And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.ἄφνω δὲ σεισμὸς ἐγένετο μέγας ὥστε σαλευθῆναι τὰ τοῦ δεσμωτηρίου ἠνεῴχθησαν ⸀δὲ παραχρῆμα αἱ θύραι πᾶσαι καὶ πάντων τὰ δεσμὰ ἀνέθη
- 27And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.ἔξυπνος δὲ γενόμενος ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ καὶ ἰδὼν ἀνεῳγμένας τὰς θύρας τῆς φυλακῆς ⸀τὴν μάχαιραν ἤμελλεν ἑαυτὸν ἀναιρεῖν νομίζων ἐκπεφευγέναι τοὺς δεσμίους
- 28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.ἐφώνησεν δὲ ⸂φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ὁ Παῦλος⸃ λέγων Μηδὲν πράξῃς σεαυτῷ κακόν ἅπαντες γάρ ἐσμεν ἐνθάδε
- 29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,αἰτήσας δὲ φῶτα εἰσεπήδησεν καὶ ἔντρομος γενόμενος προσέπεσεν τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ ⸀τῷ Σιλᾷ
- 30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?καὶ προαγαγὼν αὐτοὺς ἔξω ἔφη Κύριοι τί με δεῖ ποιεῖν ἵνα
- 31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Πίστευσον ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον ⸀Ἰησοῦν καὶ σὺ καὶ ὁ οἶκός σου
- 32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.καὶ ἐλάλησαν αὐτῷ τὸν λόγον τοῦ ⸀κυρίου ⸀σὺν πᾶσι τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ
- 33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.καὶ παραλαβὼν αὐτοὺς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ τῆς νυκτὸς ἔλουσεν ἀπὸ τῶν πληγῶν καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ αὐτοῦ ⸀πάντες παραχρῆμα
- 34And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.ἀναγαγών τε αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸν ⸀οἶκον παρέθηκεν τράπεζαν καὶ ⸀ἠγαλλιάσατο πεπιστευκὼς τῷ θεῷ
- 35And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.Ἡμέρας δὲ γενομένης ἀπέστειλαν οἱ στρατηγοὶ τοὺς ῥαβδούχους λέγοντες Ἀπόλυσον τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ἐκείνους
- 36And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.ἀπήγγειλεν δὲ ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ τοὺς λόγους ⸀τούτους πρὸς τὸν Παῦλον ὅτι Ἀπέσταλκαν οἱ στρατηγοὶ ἵνα ἀπολυθῆτε νῦν οὖν ἐξελθόντες πορεύεσθε ἐν εἰρήνῃ
- 37But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.ὁ δὲ Παῦλος ἔφη πρὸς αὐτούς Δείραντες ἡμᾶς δημοσίᾳ ἀκατακρίτους ἀνθρώπους Ῥωμαίους ὑπάρχοντας ἔβαλαν εἰς φυλακήν καὶ νῦν ἡμᾶς ἐκβάλλουσιν οὐ γάρ ἀλλὰ ἐλθόντες αὐτοὶ ⸀ἡμᾶς ἐξαγαγέτωσαν
