- 1And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.Καί κατελθόντες ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἐδίδασκον τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὅτι Ἐὰν μὴ ⸀περιτμηθῆτε τῷ ἔθει ⸀τῷ οὐ δύνασθε
- 2When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.γενομένης ⸀δὲ στάσεως καὶ ζητήσεως οὐκ ὀλίγης τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ τῷ πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἔταξαν ἀναβαίνειν Παῦλον καὶ καί ἄλλους ἐξ αὐτῶν πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους καὶ πρεσβυτέρους εἰς περὶ τοῦ ζητήματος τούτου
- 3And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.οἱ μὲν οὖν προπεμφθέντες ὑπὸ τῆς ἐκκλησίας διήρχοντο τήν ⸀τε Φοινίκην καὶ Σαμάρειαν ἐκδιηγούμενοι τὴν ἐπιστροφὴν τῶν ἐθνῶν καὶ ἐποίουν χαρὰν μεγάλην πᾶσι τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς
- 4And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.παραγενόμενοι δὲ εἰς ⸀Ἱεροσόλυμα ⸀παρεδέχθησαν ⸀ἀπὸ τῆς ἐκκλησίας καὶ τῶν ἀποστόλων καὶ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων ἀνήγγειλάν τε ὅσα ὁ θεὸς ἐποίησεν μετ’ αὐτῶν
- 5But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.ἐξανέστησαν δέ τῶν ἀπὸ τῆς αἱρέσεως τῶν Φαρισαίων πεπιστευκότες λέγοντες ὅτι δεῖ περιτέμνειν αὐτοὺς παραγγέλλειν τε τηρεῖν τὸν νόμον
- 6And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.Συνήχθησάν ⸀τε οἱ ἀπόστολοι καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἰδεῖν περὶ τοῦ λόγου τούτου
- 7And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.πολλῆς δὲ ⸀ζητήσεως γενομένης ἀναστὰς Πέτρος εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί ὑμεῖς ἐπίστασθε ὅτι ἀφ’ ἡμερῶν ἀρχαίων ⸂ἐν ὑμῖν ἐξελέξατο ὁ θεὸς⸃ διὰ τοῦ στόματός μου ἀκοῦσαι τὰ ἔθνη τὸν λόγον τοῦ εὐαγγελίου καὶ πιστεῦσαι

- 9And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.καὶ ⸀οὐθὲν διέκρινεν μεταξὺ ἡμῶν τε καὶ αὐτῶν τῇ πίστει καθαρίσας τὰς καρδίας αὐτῶν
- 10Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?νῦν οὖν τί πειράζετε τὸν θεόν ἐπιθεῖναι ζυγὸν ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον τῶν μαθητῶν ὃν οὔτε οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν οὔτε ἡμεῖς ἰσχύσαμεν βαστάσαι
- 11But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.ἀλλὰ διὰ τῆς χάριτος τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ πιστεύομεν καθ’ ὃν τρόπον κἀκεῖνοι
- 12Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.Ἐσίγησεν δὲ πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος καὶ ἤκουον καὶ Παύλου ἐξηγουμένων ὅσα ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν δι’ αὐτῶν
- 13And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:μετὰ δὲ τὸ σιγῆσαι αὐτοὺς ἀπεκρίθη Ἰάκωβος λέγων Ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί ἀκούσατέ μου
- 14Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.Συμεὼν ἐξηγήσατο καθὼς πρῶτον ὁ θεὸς ἐπεσκέψατο λαβεῖν ἐξ ἐθνῶν ⸀λαὸν τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ
- 15And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,καὶ τούτῳ συμφωνοῦσιν οἱ λόγοι τῶν προφητῶν καθὼς γέγραπται
- 16After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:Μετὰ ταῦτα ἀναστρέψω καὶ ἀνοικοδομήσω τὴν σκηνὴν τὴν πεπτωκυῖαν καὶ τὰ ⸀κατεσκαμμένα αὐτῆς ἀνοικοδομήσω καὶ ἀνορθώσω αὐτήν
- 17That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.ὅπως ἂν ἐκζητήσωσιν οἱ κατάλοιποι τῶν ἀνθρώπων τὸν κύριον καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐφ’ οὓς τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπ’ αὐτούς λέγει ⸀κύριος ποιῶν ⸀ταῦτα
- 18Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.γνωστὰ ἀπ’ ⸀αἰῶνος
- 19Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:διὸ ἐγὼ κρίνω μὴ παρενοχλεῖν τοῖς ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν ἐπιστρέφουσιν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν
- 20But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.ἀλλὰ ἐπιστεῖλαι αὐτοῖς τοῦ ⸀ἀπέχεσθαι τῶν τῶν εἰδώλων καὶ τῆς πορνείας καὶ ⸀τοῦ πνικτοῦ καὶ τοῦ αἵματος
- 21For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.γὰρ ἐκ γενεῶν ἀρχαίων κατὰ πόλιν τοὺς κηρύσσοντας αὐτὸν ἔχει ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς κατὰ πᾶν σάββατον ἀναγινωσκόμενος
- 22Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:Τότε ἔδοξε τοῖς ἀποστόλοις καὶ τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις σὺν ὅλῃ τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ ἐκλεξαμένους ἄνδρας ἐξ αὐτῶν πέμψαι εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν σὺν ⸀τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ Ἰούδαν τὸν ⸀καλούμενον καὶ Σιλᾶν ἄνδρας ἡγουμένους ἐν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς
- 23And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:γράψαντες διὰ χειρὸς ⸀αὐτῶν Οἱ ἀπόστολοι καὶ οἱ ⸀πρεσβύτεροι ἀδελφοὶ τοῖς κατὰ τὴν Ἀντιόχειαν καὶ Συρίαν καὶ Κιλικίαν ἀδελφοῖς τοῖς ἐξ ἐθνῶν χαίρειν
- 24Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:ἐπειδὴ ἠκούσαμεν ὅτι ἐξ ἡμῶν ⸀ἐξελθόντες ἐτάραξαν ὑμᾶς λόγοις ἀνασκευάζοντες τὰς ψυχὰς ⸀ὑμῶν οἷς οὐ διεστειλάμεθα

- 29That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.ἀπέχεσθαι εἰδωλοθύτων καὶ αἵματος καὶ ⸀πνικτῶν καὶ πορνείας ἐξ ὧν διατηροῦντες ἑαυτοὺς εὖ πράξετε
- 30So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:Οἱ μὲν οὖν ἀπολυθέντες ⸀κατῆλθον εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν καὶ συναγαγόντες τὸ πλῆθος ἐπέδωκαν τὴν ἐπιστολήν
- 31Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.ἀναγνόντες δὲ ἐχάρησαν ἐπὶ τῇ παρακλήσει
- 32And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.Ἰούδας τε καὶ καὶ αὐτοὶ προφῆται ὄντες διὰ λόγου πολλοῦ παρεκάλεσαν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ ἐπεστήριξαν
- 33And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.ποιήσαντες δὲ χρόνον ἀπελύθησαν μετ’ εἰρήνης ἀπὸ τῶν ἀδελφῶν πρὸς τοὺς ⸂ἀποστείλαντας αὐτούς⸃
- 34Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
- 35Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.Παῦλος δὲ καὶ διέτριβον ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ διδάσκοντες καὶ εὐαγγελιζόμενοι μετὰ καὶ ἑτέρων πολλῶν τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου
- 36And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.Μετὰ δέ ἡμέρας εἶπεν ⸂πρὸς Παῦλος⸃ Ἐπιστρέψαντες δὴ ἐπισκεψώμεθα τοὺς ⸀ἀδελφοὺς κατὰ ⸂πόλιν πᾶσαν⸃ ἐν αἷς κατηγγείλαμεν τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου πῶς ἔχουσιν
- 37And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.δὲ ⸀ἐβούλετο συμπαραλαβεῖν ⸀καὶ τὸν Ἰωάννην τὸν καλούμενον
- 38But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.Παῦλος δὲ ἠξίου τὸν ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ Παμφυλίας καὶ μὴ συνελθόντα αὐτοῖς εἰς τὸ ἔργον μὴ ⸀συμπαραλαμβάνειν τοῦτον
- 39And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;ἐγένετο ⸀δὲ παροξυσμὸς ὥστε αὐτοὺς ἀπ’ ἀλλήλων τόν τε παραλαβόντα τὸν ἐκπλεῦσαι εἰς Κύπρον
