Here is, now, our purpose to reason for emptying ourselves and becoming slaves. The human form is the cross; it is the slave. And we will bear this cross for an allotted span. Oh, we will cry out, because we had to completely empty ourselves of the Being that we really are, for the Being that we really are is one with God! We were in the form of God. Yet, we emptied ourselves and took upon ourselves the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men, and being in the form of man, humbled ourselves and became obedient unto death – even death on a cross. No one can ascend into heaven but he who descended, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. The descent is into generation, and the ascent is into regeneration. The descent is into death and decay, and the ascent is into everlasting life, but enhanced by reason of the experiences of the descent.

Humanity's true identity is divine, 'in the form of God.' For a divine purpose, we willingly 'emptied ourselves' (the descent) and took on the 'form of a slave' (the human body, which is the cross) to experience death and decay. This descent into generation is followed by an ascent into regeneration, where the individual is 'lifted up' like a fiery serpent, returning to everlasting life, enhanced by the experiences of the descent.
