- 1Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.Ἦν δέ ἀσθενῶν Λάζαρος ἀπὸ Βηθανίας ἐκ τῆς κώμης Μαρίας καὶ Μάρθας τῆς ἀδελφῆς αὐτῆς
- 2(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)ἦν δὲ ἡ ἀλείψασα τὸν κύριον μύρῳ καὶ ἐκμάξασα τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ ταῖς θριξὶν αὐτῆς ἧς ὁ ἀδελφὸς Λάζαρος ἠσθένει

- 5Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.ἠγάπα δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν Μάρθαν καὶ τὴν ἀδελφὴν αὐτῆς καὶ τὸν Λάζαρον
- 6When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.ὡς οὖν ἤκουσεν ὅτι ἀσθενεῖ τότε μὲν ἔμεινεν ἐν ᾧ ἦν τόπῳ δύο ἡμέρας
- 7Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.ἔπειτα μετὰ τοῦτο λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς Ἄγωμεν εἰς τὴν Ἰουδαίαν πάλιν
- 8His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί Ῥαββί νῦν ἐζήτουν σε λιθάσαι οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι καὶ πάλιν ὑπάγεις ἐκεῖ
- 9Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς Οὐχὶ δώδεκα ⸂ὧραί εἰσιν⸃ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐάν περιπατῇ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ οὐ προσκόπτει ὅτι τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου τούτου βλέπει
- 10But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.ἐὰν δέ περιπατῇ ἐν τῇ νυκτί προσκόπτει ὅτι τὸ φῶς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῷ
- 11These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.ταῦτα εἶπεν καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο λέγει αὐτοῖς Λάζαρος ὁ φίλος ἡμῶν ἀλλὰ πορεύομαι ἵνα ἐξυπνίσω αὐτόν

- 15And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.καὶ χαίρω δι’ ὑμᾶς ἵνα πιστεύσητε ὅτι οὐκ ἤμην ἐκεῖ ἀλλὰ ἄγωμεν πρὸς αὐτόν
- 16Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.εἶπεν οὖν Θωμᾶς ὁ λεγόμενος Δίδυμος τοῖς συμμαθηταῖς Ἄγωμεν καὶ ἡμεῖς ἵνα μετ’ αὐτοῦ
- 17Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.Ἐλθὼν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εὗρεν αὐτὸν τέσσαρας ⸂ἤδη ἡμέρας⸃ ἔχοντα ἐν τῷ μνημείῳ
- 18Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:ἦν δὲ ⸀ἡ Βηθανία ἐγγὺς τῶν Ἱεροσολύμων ὡς ἀπὸ δεκαπέντε
- 19And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.⸂πολλοὶ δὲ⸃ ἐκ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἐληλύθεισαν πρὸς ⸀τὴν Μάρθαν καὶ ἵνα παραμυθήσωνται αὐτὰς περὶ τοῦ ⸀ἀδελφοῦ
- 20Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.ἡ οὖν Μάρθα ὡς ἤκουσεν ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἔρχεται ὑπήντησεν αὐτῷ ⸀Μαρία δὲ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ ἐκαθέζετο
- 21Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.εἶπεν οὖν ⸀ἡ Μάρθα πρὸς ⸀τὸν Ἰησοῦν Κύριε εἰ ἦς ὧδε ⸂οὐκ ἂν ὁ ἀδελφός μου⸃
- 22But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.⸀καὶ νῦν ὅτι ὅσα ἂν αἰτήσῃ τὸν θεὸν δώσει σοι ὁ θεός
- 23Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.λέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Ἀναστήσεται ὁ ἀδελφός σου
- 24Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.λέγει αὐτῷ ⸀ἡ Μάρθα ὅτι ἀναστήσεται ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ

- 28And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.Καὶ ⸀τοῦτο εἰποῦσα ἀπῆλθεν καὶ ἐφώνησεν τὴν ἀδελφὴν αὐτῆς εἰποῦσα Ὁ διδάσκαλος πάρεστιν καὶ φωνεῖ σε
- 29As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.ἐκείνη ⸀δὲ ὡς ἤκουσεν ⸀ἠγέρθη ταχὺ καὶ ⸀ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτόν
- 30Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.οὔπω δὲ ἐληλύθει ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὴν κώμην ἀλλ’ ἦν ⸀ἔτι ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ὅπου ὑπήντησεν αὐτῷ ἡ Μάρθα
- 31The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.οἱ οὖν Ἰουδαῖοι οἱ ὄντες μετ’ αὐτῆς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ καὶ παραμυθούμενοι αὐτήν ἰδόντες τὴν ὅτι ταχέως ἀνέστη καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῇ ⸀δόξαντες ὅτι ὑπάγει εἰς τὸ μνημεῖον ἵνα κλαύσῃ ἐκεῖ
- 32Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.ἡ οὖν ὡς ἦλθεν ὅπου ⸀ἦν Ἰησοῦς ἰδοῦσα αὐτὸν ἔπεσεν αὐτοῦ ⸀πρὸς τοὺς πόδας λέγουσα αὐτῷ Κύριε εἰ ἦς ὧδε οὐκ ἄν ⸂μου ὁ ἀδελφός
- 33When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,Ἰησοῦς οὖν ὡς εἶδεν αὐτὴν κλαίουσαν καὶ τοὺς συνελθόντας αὐτῇ Ἰουδαίους κλαίοντας ἐνεβριμήσατο τῷ πνεύματι καὶ ἐτάραξεν ἑαυτόν
- 34And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.καὶ εἶπεν Ποῦ τεθείκατε αὐτόν λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Κύριε ἔρχου καὶ ἴδε
- 35Jesus wept.ἐδάκρυσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς
- 36Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!ἔλεγον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι Ἴδε πῶς ἐφίλει αὐτόν
- 37And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶπαν Οὐκ ἐδύνατο οὗτος ὁ ἀνοίξας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τοῦ τυφλοῦ ποιῆσαι ἵνα καὶ οὗτος μὴ
- 38Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.Ἰησοῦς οὖν πάλιν ἐμβριμώμενος ἐν ἑαυτῷ ἔρχεται εἰς τὸ μνημεῖον ἦν δὲ σπήλαιον καὶ λίθος ἐπέκειτο ἐπ’ αὐτῷ
- 39Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.λέγει ὁ Ἰησοῦς Ἄρατε τὸν λίθον λέγει αὐτῷ ἡ ἀδελφὴ τοῦ ⸀τετελευτηκότος Μάρθα Κύριε ἤδη ὄζει τεταρταῖος γάρ ἐστιν
- 40Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?λέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Οὐκ εἶπόν σοι ὅτι ἐὰν πιστεύσῃς ⸀ὄψῃ τὴν δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ
- 41Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.ἦραν οὖν τὸν ⸀λίθον ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἦρεν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἄνω καὶ εἶπεν Πάτερ εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι ἤκουσάς μου
- 42And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.ἐγὼ δὲ ὅτι πάντοτέ μου ἀκούεις ἀλλὰ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον τὸν περιεστῶτα εἶπον ἵνα πιστεύσωσιν ὅτι σύ με ἀπέστειλας
- 43And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.καὶ ταῦτα εἰπὼν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἐκραύγασεν Λάζαρε δεῦρο ἔξω
- 44And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.⸀ἐξῆλθεν ὁ δεδεμένος τοὺς πόδας καὶ τὰς χεῖρας κειρίαις καὶ ἡ ὄψις αὐτοῦ σουδαρίῳ περιεδέδετο λέγει ⸂αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃ Λύσατε αὐτὸν καὶ ἄφετε ⸀αὐτὸν ὑπάγειν
