- 1My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.Ἀδελφοί μου μὴ ἐν ἔχετε τὴν πίστιν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τῆς δόξης
- 2For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;ἐὰν γὰρ εἰσέλθῃ ⸀εἰς συναγωγὴν ὑμῶν ἀνὴρ χρυσοδακτύλιος ἐν ἐσθῆτι λαμπρᾷ εἰσέλθῃ δὲ καὶ πτωχὸς ἐν ῥυπαρᾷ ἐσθῆτι
- 3And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:⸂ἐπιβλέψητε δὲ⸃ ἐπὶ τὸν φοροῦντα τὴν ἐσθῆτα τὴν λαμπρὰν καὶ ⸀εἴπητε Σὺ κάθου ὧδε καλῶς καὶ τῷ πτωχῷ εἴπητε Σὺ στῆθι ⸂ἢ κάθου ἐκεῖ⸃ ὑπὸ τὸ ὑποπόδιόν μου
- 4Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?⸀οὐ διεκρίθητε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐγένεσθε κριταὶ διαλογισμῶν πονηρῶν
- 5Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?ἀκούσατε ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί οὐχ ὁ θεὸς ἐξελέξατο τοὺς πτωχοὺς ⸂τῷ κόσμῳ⸃ πλουσίους ἐν πίστει καὶ κληρονόμους τῆς βασιλείας ἧς τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν
- 6But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠτιμάσατε τὸν πτωχόν οὐχ οἱ πλούσιοι καταδυναστεύουσιν ὑμῶν καὶ αὐτοὶ ὑμᾶς εἰς κριτήρια
- 7Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?οὐκ αὐτοὶ βλασφημοῦσιν τὸ καλὸν ὄνομα τὸ ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς
- 8If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:Εἰ μέντοι νόμον τελεῖτε βασιλικὸν κατὰ τὴν γραφήν Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν καλῶς ποιεῖτε
- 9But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.εἰ δὲ ἁμαρτίαν ἐργάζεσθε ἐλεγχόμενοι ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου ὡς παραβάται
- 10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.ὅστις γὰρ ὅλον τὸν νόμον ⸂τηρήσῃ πταίσῃ⸃ δὲ ἐν ἑνί γέγονεν πάντων ἔνοχος
- 11For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.ὁ γὰρ εἰπών Μὴ ⸀μοιχεύσῃς εἶπεν καί Μὴ ⸀φονεύσῃς εἰ δὲ οὐ ⸂μοιχεύεις φονεύεις⸃ δέ γέγονας παραβάτης νόμου
- 12So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.λαλεῖτε καὶ ποιεῖτε ὡς διὰ νόμου ἐλευθερίας μέλλοντες κρίνεσθαι
- 13For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.ἡ γὰρ κρίσις τῷ μὴ ποιήσαντι ἔλεος κατακαυχᾶται ⸀ἔλεος κρίσεως
- 14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?⸀Τί ὄφελος ἀδελφοί μου ἐὰν πίστιν λέγῃ ἔχειν ἔργα δὲ μὴ ἔχῃ μὴ δύναται ἡ πίστις αὐτόν
- 15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,⸀ἐὰν ἀδελφὸς ἢ ἀδελφὴ γυμνοὶ ὑπάρχωσιν καὶ ⸀λειπόμενοι τῆς ἐφημέρου τροφῆς
- 16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?εἴπῃ δέ αὐτοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν Ὑπάγετε ἐν εἰρήνῃ καὶ χορτάζεσθε μὴ δῶτε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὰ ἐπιτήδεια τοῦ σώματος ⸀τί ὄφελος
- 17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.καὶ ἡ πίστις ἐὰν μὴ ⸂ἔχῃ ἔργα⸃ νεκρά ἐστιν καθ’ ἑαυτήν
- 18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.Ἀλλ’ ἐρεῖ Σὺ πίστιν ἔχεις κἀγὼ ἔργα ἔχω μοι τὴν πίστιν σου ⸀χωρὶς τῶν ⸀ἔργων κἀγώ ⸂σοι ἐκ τῶν ἔργων μου τὴν ⸀πίστιν
