Step by step
- Identify your desired state or location.
- Consciously deny the evidence of your physical senses and reason that tells you you are not there.
- Dare to assume you are where you would like to be.
- Rearrange the 'furniture of your mind' (mental imagery, sounds, feelings) to reflect this desired state.
- Remain faithful to this assumed state, dwelling in it mentally, until it takes on the tones of sensory reality and vividness.

This technique involves consciously denying the evidence of the physical senses and reason. Instead, one assumes the feeling of being in the desired state, rearranging the 'furniture of the mind' (mental objects and perceptions) to align with that state. The key is to remain faithful to this assumed state until it feels sensorily vivid and real, even if the physical world initially contradicts it.
The inner man, by standing here, could desire to be elsewhere and deny the evidence of my senses, denying reason, dare to assume I am where I would like to be, and rearrange the furniture of my mind. Instead of using this to tell me I am here, I use other furniture - objects of my mind. Here I rearrange it and remain faithful to that state until it takes on the tones of reality. And when it seems to be sensory vivid and I open my eyes upon it, I am shocked to find I am still here. That is the inner man, called Jacob, the supplanter - he takes the place of the outer man.
This is the essence of Jacob, the supplanter, who takes the place of the outer man (Esau). It is the imaginative act of living from the end, persuading oneself of the reality of the desired state, which then manifests in the physical world.
