Step by step
- Observe the activity of your own mind or imagination (like watching a tape reel run).
- Consciously decide to 'arrest' or stop this imaginative activity.
- Experience an opening and expansion within yourself, where external action cannot be initiated.
- To re-engage with the external world or restart activity, consciously 'contract your senses.'

The technique involves consciously stopping or 'freezing' the activity of one's imagination, which leads to an expanded state of consciousness. To resume activity or perception of the external world, one must contract their senses again.
I was watching my tape recorder run, observing the tape move from one reel to the other, when I remembered that if I would arrest the activity I observed in my own mind, it would freeze. Immediately I stopped the activity in my imagination and the reel moved no more. I notice that the instant I did it, something in me opened and expanded; but I could not start the reel again until I contracted my senses. This fascinated me so I did it several times, each time realizing that I could not start the action in my open and expanded state. Only when I had contracted my senses once more would the reel start and move, seemingly independent of my perception of it.
This dream experience symbolizes the power of the individual to control and influence reality through their imagination. Arresting imaginative activity leads to an expanded, non-physical state, while contracting the senses brings one back to the physical perception of the world. It foreshadows the power man will exercise in the new age.
