- 1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.Περὶ δὲ τῶν χρόνων καὶ τῶν καιρῶν ἀδελφοί οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε ὑμῖν γράφεσθαι
- 2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἀκριβῶς ⸀ὅτι ἡμέρα κυρίου ὡς κλέπτης ἐν νυκτὶ ἔρχεται
- 3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.⸀ὅταν λέγωσιν Εἰρήνη καὶ ἀσφάλεια τότε αἰφνίδιος αὐτοῖς ἐφίσταται ὄλεθρος ὥσπερ ἡ ὠδὶν τῇ ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσῃ καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκφύγωσιν
- 4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.ὑμεῖς δέ ἀδελφοί οὐκ ἐστὲ ἐν σκότει ἵνα ἡ ἡμέρα ὑμᾶς ὡς ⸀κλέπτης καταλάβῃ
- 5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.πάντες ⸀γὰρ ὑμεῖς υἱοὶ φωτός ἐστε καὶ υἱοὶ ἡμέρας οὐκ ἐσμὲν νυκτὸς οὐδὲ σκότους
- 6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.ἄρα οὖν μὴ καθεύδωμεν ⸀ὡς οἱ ἀλλὰ καὶ νήφωμεν
- 7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.οἱ γὰρ καθεύδοντες νυκτὸς καθεύδουσιν καὶ οἱ νυκτὸς μεθύουσιν
- 8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.ἡμεῖς δὲ ἡμέρας ὄντες νήφωμεν ἐνδυσάμενοι θώρακα πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ περικεφαλαίαν ἐλπίδα σωτηρίας
- 9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,ὅτι οὐκ ἔθετο ἡμᾶς ὁ θεὸς εἰς ὀργὴν ἀλλὰ εἰς περιποίησιν σωτηρίας διὰ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
- 10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.τοῦ ⸀περὶ ἡμῶν ἵνα εἴτε εἴτε καθεύδωμεν ἅμα σὺν αὐτῷ ζήσωμεν
- 11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.διὸ παρακαλεῖτε ἀλλήλους καὶ οἰκοδομεῖτε εἷς τὸν ἕνα καθὼς καὶ ποιεῖτε
- 12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;Ἐρωτῶμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί τοὺς κοπιῶντας ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ προϊσταμένους ὑμῶν ἐν κυρίῳ καὶ νουθετοῦντας ὑμᾶς
- 13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.καὶ ἡγεῖσθαι αὐτοὺς ἐν ἀγάπῃ διὰ τὸ ἔργον αὐτῶν εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ⸀ἑαυτοῖς
- 14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί νουθετεῖτε τοὺς ἀτάκτους παραμυθεῖσθε τοὺς ὀλιγοψύχους ἀντέχεσθε τῶν ἀσθενῶν μακροθυμεῖτε πρὸς πάντας
- 15See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.ὁρᾶτε μή κακὸν ἀντὶ κακοῦ ἀποδῷ ἀλλὰ πάντοτε τὸ ἀγαθὸν ⸀διώκετε εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας
- 16Rejoice evermore.πάντοτε χαίρετε
- 17Pray without ceasing.ἀδιαλείπτως προσεύχεσθε
- 18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.ἐν παντὶ εὐχαριστεῖτε τοῦτο γὰρ θέλημα θεοῦ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς ὑμᾶς
- 19Quench not the Spirit.τὸ πνεῦμα μὴ σβέννυτε
- 20Despise not prophesyings.προφητείας μὴ ἐξουθενεῖτε
- 21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.πάντα δὲ δοκιμάζετε τὸ καλὸν κατέχετε
- 22Abstain from all appearance of evil.ἀπὸ παντὸς εἴδους πονηροῦ ἀπέχεσθε
- 23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῆς εἰρήνης ἁγιάσαι ὑμᾶς ὁλοτελεῖς καὶ ὁλόκληρον ὑμῶν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ καὶ τὸ σῶμα ἀμέμπτως ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τηρηθείη
- 24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.πιστὸς ὁ καλῶν ὑμᾶς ὃς καὶ ποιήσει
- 25Brethren, pray for us.Ἀδελφοί ⸀προσεύχεσθε περὶ ἡμῶν
- 26Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.ἀσπάσασθε τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς πάντας ἐν φιλήματι ἁγίῳ
- 27I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.ὑμᾶς τὸν κύριον ἀναγνωσθῆναι τὴν ἐπιστολὴν πᾶσιν ⸀τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς
- 28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. «The first epistle to the Thessalonians was written from Athens.»ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ μεθ’ ⸀ὑμῶν
